Ode to the Right Whale
Ode to the Right Whale
The winds blow low out across the bay
The waters high along about May
There're black-eyed Susans back on shore,
But you won't find whales out here any more.
The Captain's cursin' out some song,
He's been away from home too long,
And all the rum now he's glad that he stored,
'cause he can't find whales out here anymore.
And still he sails across the ocean dreamin' through his tears,
He'd taken almost twenty thousand back across the years,
The shadows roll out across the sea,
There's nothing there and there'll never be,
The old man lies dreamin' behind his door,
'cause he can't find whales out here anymore.
And he really knows how it used to be
How you'd hear them pushin' right down thru the sea,
Let's both have a drink now but I'd better pour,
'cause you won't find whales out here anymore.
And still he sails across the ocean, dreamin' through his tears,
He'd taken almost twenty thousand back across the years.
There're black eyed Susans back on shore
But you won't find whales out there any more.
The End
