Ode to my Old Man
Ode to My Old Man
The feelings strong they do run deep
It is for me a time of sorrow
The memories linger and oft repeat
You rest in peace with no tomorrow
You were a guide, a mentor too
And what I am I owe to you
I never knew til now, old man
Just how you influenced my final plan
When times were tough
You were always there
I looked to you
Oft in despair
But you were always there to lift
My spirits up to lofty height
With cheerful admonitions bright
You guided me by piercing light
And when you came to final end
It pained me that I couldn’t mend
The awful unrelenting trend
Of pain that wracked you end to end
But Dad please know that I will ever
Respect and cherish your memory forever
Til I, like you, pass on to end
Remembering always my best friend
