Nova Scotia’s Totem Pole

Beautiful Whycocomagh Provincial park lies close to the highway about an hour from North Sydney.

Seldom do we pass by  without stopping there, whether to camp, hike the trails, or to tank up on the cold, clear spring water that flows from the hillside close to the bridge.

Back in 1971 the coastal B.C natives gifted a totem pole to Nova Scotia and it stood overlooking the Canso Causeway, which links Cape Breton to mainland Nova Scotia.

The sign in the park beside the Totem Pole tells us "in 2008 it was determined that after 37 years weathering the coastal N.S climate ,the totem was deemed no be no longer structurally sound.  In keeping with Tsimshian tradition, totems are to return to the earth once fallen."

So there it lies on the grass in the park and welcomes all who pass by.

Pay it a visit! You will like the place!
