Nora Daley
Nora Daley became deceased on August 28, 2006. She was born on September 10, 1923 in North Harbour, St. Mary's Bay. In October of 1953, she married Charlie Daley and they raised a family of three daughters and six sons. Nora was very civic-minded. She was instrumental in bringing the idea of Senior Citizen Clubs to St. Mary's Bay. She, through her relentless efforts, set up 4-H Clubs throughout the St. Mary's Bay as well. These clubs afforded many of the youth opportunities to acquire leadership qualities and experience the culture and traditions of many parts of our province outside of St. Mary's Bay itself.
Nora Daley
(1923-2006)
In the bosom of her family
On a sunny summer's day
Near the hour of Our Lord's passing
That's when Nora slipped away
In her hometown of St. Joseph's
Tears of many softly fall
For they loved that special lady
'Ever in their hearts she'll dwell
In the little church they gathered
Family, friends and neighbours all
For 'twas there you'd find her praying
Winter, summer, spring and fall
Friends, they came in droves to visit
With their memories etched in gold
With their flowers and their foodstuff
And their stories to be told -
Of her teaching in North Harbour
Of the man who won her heart
Of the vows in that October
Of the good deeds she'd impart
How she made her home a haven
For all those who came to call
How she gave to all her children
Strength to rise from every fall
How she went beyond her home life
For the betterment of all
Putting smiles on aging faces
Bringing youth a higher call
How the children gathered round her
Family ones and others too
All to seek her special kindness
And to hear her point-of-view
How her artist brush was busy
Gracing halls and family homes
How her eyes would scan the waters
For the safe return of sons
Of her love for her dear Charlie
On this earth and then beyond
Of her trust in the Almighty
As her life-style had affirmed...
And the song from beginning to end
I found in the heart of a friend (William Wadsworth Longfellow)
Written to celebrate the life of my friend.
