On a recent trip to Sri Lanka, my daughter and her friend were traveling from Colombo by train. In the middle of no where the train broke down and they were left stranded in +40 temperatures. After several hours and buses had passed they decided they would take the next bus that came by. Suddenly another train engine appeared and to their amazement the sign on the train read "Newfoundland". A plaque stated this engine was gifted to Sri Lanka by Canada in the 1950s. After 50 years this old locomotive is still a workhorse of the Sri Lankan railway. My daughter felt very proud that day to be rescued by a Newfoundlander. She sent the attached photo.
