BBQ at dusk.

Light a fire in the patio stove -
flankers dance sprightly upon the final rays of day.

Neighbours feel a mysterious hunger
while memories of summer ascend from their subconscious.

Knives of northeasters threaten these heroic flames.

Sizzle... pop-POP... from the stove
as the ice upon a birch
concedes defeat with rhythmic eloquence.

Good Lord!
In the time it takes to write these words... the day bled away.
'Darling, can you grab me the pepper and onion powder?'
