Newfoundland Acrostic
Recently, when reviewing papers of my late father, J. Allen Rowe of Heart's Content, I found this acrostic, "Newfoundland." As an expatriate, I share your journal with a friend, another expatriate, Harold Oxley, formerly of St. John's.
N -ewfoundland, fair 'tis and charming
E -nriching its scenery, grand
W -eather salubrious and warming
F -rom extremes we are free Newfoundland
O -ur "air" a health-giving elixir
U -nderstand there's no better extant
N -o oxygen in finer mixture
D -elightful. To beat it you can't.
L -and of our sires from Devon
A -nd Dorset and Derby as well
N -ewfoundland. It's a real bit of Heaven
D -electable, splendid and swell.
