Newfie Honeymoon

Newfie Honeymoon

After getting married in Halifax on August 8, 2009, my husband and I travelled to Newfoundland for our honeymoon. My husband, Chris Doody, is originally from Pasadena and I am from Ramea, so naturally we wanted to go home after the wedding. Newfoundland may not be the top pick for honeymooners but it should be. We spent so much time hiking, fishing, touring and visiting, and there was still time left over to go out to dinner and enjoy the sunsets. A few of our plans had to be scrapped due to poor weather but we still had fun. One day while driving to Gros Morne to meet with family we decided to climb Gros Morne mountain. We were ill prepared with only a bottle of water between us and no food. Nevermind I was wearing sandels and it was already noon. This hike should take anywhere between 6 and 8 hours, but we were determined (and a little stunned). I wouldn't advise anyone to do it but we got to the top and back down to our car in five hours, stopping on the trail only to eat wild blueberries and for a pee break or two. It was the highlight of the trip! We also got to explore Grand Bruit, a tiny outport that, unfortunately, is on the verge of resettlement. Another huge highlight. There is so much to do in Newfoundland; we are very happy that we spent our first two weeks as a married couple there.   Submitted By: Jennifer MacDonald
