Mystic Images
Giggling playfully by the shore,
Tossing gemstones onto the beach.
Turquoise, sapphire, diamond and jade,
They place them within my reach.
Dreaming along the water’s edge,
On a sunny summer day,
Is that a seagull’s laugh I hear?
Or are mermaids still at play?
Sea glass glitters in the sun,
"Mermaid’s tears," it is said.
Magical thoughts of maidenly myths,
Conjured up in my head.
Collecting pieces one by one,
A labour of love for me,
For there’s nothing more enchanting,
Than an afternoon spent by the sea.
I gather the beautiful teardrops,
Till my pockets can hold no more.
And the tide slowly rises once again,
To claim the ocean floor.
All too soon, my footprints fade,
Not a trace have I left behind.
But thoughts are gold, and I now hold
Mystic images in my mind.
