My name is Elaine Blandford. My mom, who is deceased, was Helena Patricia Myers from Bonne Bay. My grandfather was Leo Myers, and my understanding is that the family originated in Bartlett's Harbour. For the past three years I have wanted to organize a family reunion of the Myers generations who are still around and would like to all meet up. I suggested Bonne Bay, but am open to suggestions for a venue more conducive to a large crowd. I know there are many of us, and many are scattered about but the internet is a great resource. I originally wanted to set it up for August 2009, but I have had NO interest up to now. So, I am now trying this method. I have set up a page on Facebook, and it would be fun to post photos to us. My mom was from a very unique family. Her dad's first wife brought 3 children to that marriage, Cornelius, Molly, and I do not know the third one's name. Then my grampa and his wife had five children. They were Zeta, John, Helena, James and Katherine ("Kitty"). My grandmother passed away, and my grandfather remarried. He had three more children, Anne, Helen, and Leo. When I say unique, I think you would agree. Any of the readers may be a Myers from somewhere, and I think that technology can assist us in putting together this type of event. My belief in family is strong, and when my daughter was born, I sang "I'se the b'ye that builds the boat," to her everyday, so that when we were apart, all I had to do was sing it into the phone, and she'd know who it was just by the smile it brought to her face. I say let's make this effort if not for us, for our children, children's children, and descendants, so that they can meet up, and who knows, maybe we can make this an annual affair.
