Dear Downhome: I moved out to Victoria, British Columbia almost four years ago; driving from St. John's, Newfoundland across this beautiful country to Vancouver Island. To make a long story really short I have made a life for myself out here and like many Newfoundlanders who move away, I still consider Newfoundland "home." A very good friend of mine bought me the most thoughtful Christmas gift last year (and this year): a subscription to Downhome Magazine! I enjoy sharing the articles with friends out here. I have met a wonderful man, who last March (on my 30th birthday) asked me to marry him. Well, that following summer we had to make the trip home to attend my sister's wedding and to get my fiance to meet my parents in Port Union, Newfoundland. We were very excited - we planned three weeks in Newfoundland, spending half our time in town and half around the bay. I had not been home in three years and he had never been to Newfoundland. I would like you to know that my subscription to Downhome magazine gave me more ideas for places to visit. In addition, having been away and realizing all the unique things I took for granted when living in Newfoundland, I wanted so many souvenirs to take back to BC. So, as part of my subscription to the Downhome, I got that lovely VIP card. So I thought I would send you a picture of me in front of the Downhome store after spending a few hundred dollars with my VIP discount! Your staff were so friendly and I had so much fun! My fiance had an AWESOME time in Newfoundland - he wants to come back again soon! So when we do make the trip I am sure we will drop by again!
