My son, while living in St. Albert, Alberta and working in Fort McMurray 2013, phoned me and asked if I would make him a hand sewn quilt with the map of NFLD Tartan for Christmas. After making over six hundred quilts for Birthdays, Christmas, anniversary and charity I sold only one and don&acirc;��t have either one for my self. When I get one done it is given away. At the present time I am making one for the Trinity Conception Placentia Health Foundation. I do one every year and raise two thousand dollars with a hand carved loom made by my husband Herman.<br /> It is a good pastime for me.<br /> That was made trade 62 years ago at the Glove Factory in Carbonear &acirc;�&quot; where I worked for 4 years. We volunteer for a lot of charity. This quilt was a big challenge for me as I never seen one like it. Some of my quilts also went for Daffodil Place where we played and sang and raised $10,000.<br /> In 2012 April, 17, we won the Governor General Award for Caring Canadians. We traveled to Ottawa where 28 people across Canada were presented with awards. We were the only from NFLD to get the award. Herman, my husband, will be 79 Aug. 1 and I will be 75 Oct. 21. We have been volunteers for over 55 years.<br /> This year we raised thousands of dollars that will go towards helping people get kidney, liver, heart and bone transplants, as well as blood transfusions and patients who need out of province treatment.
