Mural of SS Caribou
This mural is located on the waterfront in Port aux Basques. It was painted by local artist Aubrey Wells in 2017 to mark the 75th anniversary of the sinking of the SS Caribou. The SS Caribou was a NL Railway passenger ferry that sailed between Port aux Basques, NL and North Sydney, NS from 1928 to 1942. In 1942, a German submarine torpedoed and sank the SS Caribou. Of the 237 passengers and crew aboard, 136 died. Submitted By: Deborah Symonds
