Lumsden, Bonavista Bay
I remember so vividly as if it was yesterday, taking a walk around the shoreline of Lumsden with my dad and Uncle Hiram Gibbons where there were so many fishing stages and flakes. It is so peaceful here now where once we heard the echoes of fishermen in their glee after a great catch of codfish. They were strong and witty men who spoke the fisherman,s language. There were also the echoes of women spreading and turning fish on the blassy bough flakes in their rubber boots, black dresses and white aprons, which was a very familar sight around our Newfoundland shores after losing loved ones to the unpredictable claws of the great and powerful Atlantic ocean. The memories of this wonderful fishing village and its kind families, friends and neighbours will never be forgotten. Frank Blackwood, Richmond Hill, Ont. Submitted By: Frank Blackwood
