Living On A Rock
People often ask me why i live'ere on the rock And it stirs my heart to answer, far more than just to talk. For I know the joy I've 'ad here is more than can be told No poem, nor song nor story, can make it all unfold. But I'll try to give you something, to flood your mind me friend So read this poem carefully, each line, right to the end. I'm not a learned scholar, like many folks from here So please be patient with me, and lend me your good ear. You see God blessed this chunk of rock, us people calls our 'ome And folks here often leave this place, across the world to roam. In search of work, they leave this isle in hopes of a better life But most come back to 'ome sweet 'ome, away from all that strife. Love and kindness is in our bones, we'll do any man a turn So listen lad and heed my words, from me you just might learn. Oh we have tried the golden rule, and in it we believe It's much more fun to give things, than 'tis to receive. My son I've seen 'ard times, when all we had was the pot But friends and neighbors stood by us, and we overcame our lot. But that's the Newfie way, my son, on what they call the rock Through time and toil we're still the same, that good old faithful flock. Our weather beaten faces and our hard and calloused 'ands Have served us well, here at 'ome, and in far distant lands. We Islanders give a good days work ,for a day's pay my son And we're proud to say the work we do, is second best to none. Granted, in relation, to some other zones out there We never seem to get a deal, or any play that's fair Some politicians take us, for a bunch of ignorant folks And mainlanders often make us, the subject of their jokes. But never mind all that stuff, they say that talk is cheap And I believe that everyone, sows what they will reap. I'm proud to be from Newfoundland, and guess I'll always be. On that gem of God's , built on a rock, out 'ere upon the sea. Submitted By: NULL
