Left Behind

Left Behind

As my loved one goes to the front line,
I stay behind and do battle of a different kind.

I fight hard, each and every day,
I make peace with the war that is inside my mind.

I struggle to smile and tell people that I am fine.
I put up a front to show all that I am okay.
I spread my love, through thick and thin.
I am in constant battle, with this war of mine.

I have come to terms with the life I live.
I live through others in time of need.
I give of myself when it is time to be.

I have loved you for so long, my forever strong.
I dreamt of you last night, far away from your fight.
I remember of a time when you were so near.
I know that time will once again soon be here.

I struggle to smile and tell people that I am fine.
I put up a front to show all that I am okay.
I spread my love, through thick and thin.
I am in constant battle, with this war of mine.

I stay safe knowing that you are alright.
I sometimes stay close to the phone in fear when I do not hear.
I keep the candle alight to remind you of home.
I hold your heart so close, so close to mine.

I keep the family strong when you are not here.
I keep those around me going without fear.

I love you so much that it cannot be said,
But I will say it to you time and time again.

I will wait here for you, but until that moment,
I will wait here some more.

I am a military wife, husband, mother or father.
I am a sister or a brother.
I am a cousin or a friend.
I am a nation waiting patiently for your safe return.
