Johnny turned the Strap On The Nun
I believe we were in six Grade and Johnny was an active Boy.Very fitĀ and bored with the stuffy and Mundane 5 hour lessons with the same Nun droning on about the fires of hell in a Monotone voice like the sound of a Cod fish skinning machine on the Plant.Anyway you did not have to do much to get the Sister worked up.Think she might be on her last nerve and Johnny happened to be unfortunate enough to be standing on that last nerve. It was a nice Sunny Day in Spring
when Johnny was summoned to the front of the Class to feel the trauma of a big black leather Strap. Some Catholics are shame based and love to lay a beaten on you in front of the Class.
Johnny see that the Sister did not have a firm grip on her Weapon of choice. So he quickly drew it from her hand.Slapped her on the head with it and flew through the open window.I don’t condone Violence whether by Nun or Student.
Got to admit it was fun to watch.Johnny was expelled. But not for long.
I am not a believer in slapping kids. Our parents raised nine of us without hitting us and we all turned out fine.Although some may argue a good junk of wood might have done me good.In Grade Eleven I ran for Student Council and one thing I pushed for was getting rid of the Strap. So they did not use it that year. The following year when I was no longer around .they brought the Strap back.Did not realize I needed legal advice to put a clause in it to have the Strap removed permanently.See Ya!
