Johanah Receives A Blessing!
Sitting here after Breakfast sipping on my Tea and thinking about my Late Uncle Bill Joe.
A little about Uncle Bill.He left home young and went to work as a Harbour Board Policeman
in Halifax when there was such a job.Worked there for 25 years and Retired back home with
his family in Trepassey and still a young Middle Aged Man.Bill had a wicked sense of humour
and a great memory and he loved to tell Stories of when he was young.
People up home told me I remind them of Uncle Bill.
One day I was visiting the Medical Clinic in Trepassey and I struck up a Yarn with a Man
from St.Vincent’s.He said to me.”Boy I don’t know who You are.But I can tell You are Related
to Bill Joe Kennedy. Not only do You look like him and walk like him.You also sound like Him.”
Yes says I,Bill Joe is my Uncle.
The Town Council called Uncle Bill once. The Neighbour complained his dog’s were bothering her Pig.
Bill said You need to get your facts straight. That Pig died last October from Natural Causes.
Anyway on to the main reason for this little Speil. Before I forgets it.
A Young Billy Joe was serving on The Altar like most Young Catholic Boys on the Shore at the time.
This one was told to me by Uncle Bill for a few Giggles.
Now The Star of our Story Johanah was a Spinster a name they used for an Older Un Married Woman was from The Dock where we lived. The Dock got its name from where the Trains Docked in the 20’s and 30’s.
The Priest and The Altar Boys were getting ready to go serve and were gathered in the Back. When out of the Blue
Johanah burst in and in a High Tone said.”Fadder,Fadder You have to Bless me.I have a Bad pain in Me Guts.”
Without missing a Beat. The Priest said.”Johanah don’t Say Guts.Say Stomach.” Before She received The Blessing
The Priest made sure She had The Grammar Right. This is one way Uncle Bill and Yours Truly are a like.We remember
the Important Stuff. Now Go Take On The Day!
