It’s Our Turn Now – A Newfoundland Story
Time has etched her history
In the granite cliffs she boasts.
The likes of pirates and Vikings too,
Have stormed her rugged coast.
Tales of boundless stocks of fish,
Drew strangers to her shores.
They carried all their ships could hold,
Now they come no more.
Bountiful forests, pristine, untouched,
Along they came one day.
Prosperity reigned while they raped the land,
And then they went away.
Her resources it seems are endless,
Black gold surrounds her now.
They’re back again with promises
Try to take it all somehow.
But we’ll stand up for Newfoundland,
Our island no longer has not.
Now it’s our turn to reap the rewards,
For this island can’t be bought.
