It’s a small world
My husband and I recently took a vacation in Cuba. One day we did the catamaran tour, where people from different resorts go on a number of catamarans and we all stop at an island for lunch. We were in the lineup for the buffet when I heard the people behind me talking. It was easy to detect our distinct NL accent, so I turned around and said "You're from Newfoundland?" The lady laughed and said "How'd ya tell?!" She asked where I was from and I told her Fogo Island. She said she was from Lewisporte. I told her I have relatives there, and gave her my aunt's name, to which she replied "I'm her daughter!" So I laughed and said "Well I guess I'm your first cousin!" We haven't seen each other in over 20 years, and when we do, it's in Cuba! It really is a small world!
