It’s a Small World

It’s a Small World

I was born in Grace Hospital in St. John's. My mother Olive King (daughter of Absolom and Emma Alice Morgan King) married my American father, Glen Gorrell, a member of the US air force. My parents were long time subscribers to Downhome (then Downhomer) when it was in newspaper/tabloid format. I got turned on and have been a faithful subscriber for years. On every visit "home" I make a point to stop by your store on Water Street. I was honoured to meet Ron Young when the Downhome office was actually in the shop itself. My parents and I have our names on Downhome stones nearby. Attached is a photo of Carolyn Williams, winner of the IMATS (International Make-Up Artist Trade Show) fantasy make-up contest, and me (I am on the right). The greatest part is that Carolyn is from Pouch Cove, Newfoundland. She studied at the Vancouver Film School. The model is her boyfriend, Jordan Barnes-Crouse. The two-day event was in the Los Angeles area the last weekend in June. Imagine the surprise for us both to find someone else from "The Rock." Professional photo credit is Deverill Weekes. Prior to taking the picture, he gave me authorization to send this photo to your publication. If there are other Newfoundlanders in the Los Angeles area, I would welcome hearing from them.   Submitted By: Sharon Gorrell
