In Living Colour
In the mid 1980s I was starting out my adult life and moved to Halifax, NS for my first full-time job. I rented a lovely apartment and soon became acquainted with my neighbours. One evening when I heard a knock on my door, I looked through the little peephole and saw my elderly neighbour Jeanette. I flung the door wide open and yes, there stood Jeanette, but also a handsome young man who was going door-to-door giving a talk about neighbourhood watch.
In normal circumstances I would have been delighted, but here I stood in a jade green nightgown just below my knees, a much-too-baggy purple cardigan, and a pair of burgundy slippers. My colourful attire certainly was no match for the red of my face and I will forever remember that encounter for the rest of my life.
