I Stand Alone

I Stand Alone

They may bombard me with concrete
they may bombard me with stone,
they can never take my hope
even when I am alone.

I will fight for my right
I will fight to the end,
I will stand tall and strong
my message I will send.

to the people I salute you
to thine enemies I frown,
you will never beat me
into the ground.

my strength, I thank my family
my friends for my power,
my thankfulness and love
to them I shall shower.

so WHSCC, you go right ahead
and pound me into the ground,
for these are inside me
you cannot touch even with sound.

you are wronging the people
you try to beat them down,
but when you have the roots I have
you will never bury me into the ground.

this dandelion photo I have thee
speaks to me a thousand words, you see,
that weather that you storm on me
you will never get rid of me.

I may shiver from your winds you blow
I may bend with the rain,
but I will keep on growing
even with all this pain.

so I see this beautiful flower
you might call it weeds,
but I see the beauty in all
you won't even meet my needs.

we cannot control our weather
but we always take it in stride,
so take heed in what I am saying
you are in for a long long ride.

you should be helping these people
instead of putting them in the ground,
assisting them back on their feet
and aid them to climb each mound.

Our government is giving up on its people
and they act like they don't care,
but guess what, our politicians
we are not going anywhere.

Answers we have begged for
questions we've put on your table,
for someone so popular and educated
you couldn't answer, you were unable.

So for the people's sake you should take heed
and listen to what they are saying,
remove their pain and worry
and never mind what you are paying.

the dollar will some day disappear
and when we die, it doesn't matter,
for when I was forced into that hole
you would not supply a ladder.

you do this and believe it is legal
but you do not see the whole picture,
for you are not worried about the workers
only worried about getting richer.

I saw Satan's followers in each and everyone of you
and that is really so sad to say,
that a fellow Newfoundlander, for someone trying to heal
that we could honestly say, you stood in their way.

the earth is stronger for now
yes much more than the people,
but this flower tells me to move forward
it will grow higher than a steeple.

so take our dignity and independence
and take our rights from under our feet,
but you will remember each and everyone of us
each time you see a flower, poking out from the concrete.   Submitted By: shirley a. ryan
