A poem I wrote some years ago when I was stationed in Dominica in the Caribbean.

I Love Newfoundland

I sang "God guard thee"
When I went to school.
I sang I loved our "smiling land" -
That was the rule.
But now in later years
With adult pride
I see that love engendered
Does still abide;
And so, my wind-swept,
Sometimes fog-bound land,
You are my home,
I love you, Newfoundland.

I chanted "pine-clad" hills
When I was seven,
And made to think my country
Much like heaven;
Now seven times that age,
A man mature,
My childlike love of country
Does still endure;
And so, my rugged
But enchanting land,
You are my home,
