Submitted Mon, Oct 23, 2006 I AM A NEWFOUNDLANDER by David GR Butler I am a Newfoundlander, no matter what they say. I am a Newfoundlander, even though I went away. When I left “The Rock” I had a dream to make my way and build a team. The mainland was my destination to find a job and occupation. I bought a company and started a few my income and my fortunes grew. I found true love and married her we raised two kids without much stir. For I am a Newfoundlander, no matter what they say I am a Newfoundlander, even though I went away. Now all my companies have been sold my kids have grown and left the fold. Death took my wife and left me alone. I found it awful on my own. Then a Newfoundland beauty dated me and turned my sadness into glee. I asked her to become my wife we tied knot and have a life. For I am a Newfoundlander, no matter what they say I am a Newfoundlander, even though I went away. I traveled Canada from east to west to assure myself which place is best. Then I visited countries far and wide to see the things that they provide. I’m happy to say I’m from “The Rock” that on my heart it has a lock. No other place has that certain feel or people who are quite so real. I am a Newfoundlander, no matter what they say I am a Newfoundlander, even though I went away. I may have left for up along but always know where I belong. Family and those who chose to stay, may feel that I have gone astray. But when I return and visit friends I feel no need to make amends. For I am a Newfoundlander, no matter what they say. I’m still a Newfoundlander, even though I went away. And I’ll be a Newfoundlander, even when I pass away.
