In response to the "Dear Reader" question on page 15 in the Downhome for January 2012, I would like to comment: Yes, I also have a question for the editors and for other readers. I have my mother in hospital in the next town; I try to visit two to three times a week, depending on weather conditions, but at least once a week. She is staying there for a medical condition that I can't take care of. I usually bring her a treat of some kind, which I pay for, then visit the cafeteria for a small snack; my husband comes as well, because I don't travel alone. These costs, along with the price of gas, mount up quickly, and I'm retired, on a fixed income. I spend 10-20 minutes trying to find parking, which is disappointing, because then I need money to pay for parking for two to three hours. Please remove these meters from all hospitals - show compassion. My beef is that someone in government should take care of this matter before dealing with other matters, like expecting us taxpayers to contribute into their big pensions. My pension is getting smaller every day. I agree with Editor-in-Chief Rajendra Kale of the Canadian Medical Association Journal, quoted on page 56 of this month's Downhome. Maybe someone reading this can be my voice, and I say "Help." When the new hospital is built in Corner Brook (whenever), please don't put any meters there.
