Summer of 2009. This picture was taken at Harold and Loretta Berger's cottage in Ritters Arm, Notre Dame Bay.
The birdhouse is made kind of rugged, using slabs and sticks. We have had it there for a number of years with no birds taking ownership, so the hornets decided this year they would remodel and make it their own.
They encased the whole birdhouse without us even noticing, until I noticed one day while looking out the window; the hole was gone, and then, to my surprise, the birdhouse looked like a huge hive.
I have not seen anything like this before. This is a great conversation piece, don't you think?   Submitted By: NULL
