Heritage Quilt

Having heritage from both of my parents being born and brought up in Conception Bay has given me very strong ties to Newfoundland, which has become my home away from home. In 1992, after my mother passed away I made my first visit up there to find my heritage. This was love at first sight for me with the beauty of your island, as well as the warmth of your very special people. I am extremely proud of my Newfoundland heritage. I have been back every year and hope to continue to do so for many years to come.

Each year I try to bring a little piece of Newfoundland back with me in whatever form I can. I have visited your store many times and have purchased many lovely items. I have also rummaged through the site of the one-room school house my mother taught 12 grades in Brigus Junction bringing back a piece of the pot belly stove as well as a railroad spike to numerous other "treasures" in the form of rocks to bottles to saw blades used by my grandfather to large and small ugly sticks that a cousin made for me. I simply can't get enough, and I am sure US customs officers are in a state of quandary when they see me coming home each year.

This feeling of having things of Newfoundland surround me in my home, led me to write you about the quilt.

I think there are a lot of visitors from the US who probably feel the same way I do about their heritage, and would love to bring a handmade item as lovely as this quilt back with them. There is a strong Newfoundland influence in New England where I am from, better known to you as the "Boston States," as well as many other parts of the US. I think therefore this would be a wonderful item for your catalogue as well, for those people who do not have the ability to visit the Island.

This quilt is made into a size that would fit a twin bed, or be used as a throw. However it could be made into a smaller wall hanging as well.

The squares are surrounded by Newfoundland tartan plaid material, which by itself is a heritage item.

The quilt could also be made more personal by having a square or two of the township the family is from (crest or whatever), as well as having the family name embroidered on one of the squares.

I love mine and hope you think this is a worthy item to represent your beautiful island of Newfoundland.

If you are interested in promoting this, please call me with the specifics of what you would require besides a sample for your store. I will then put you in touch with my cousin who is the one responsible for this beautiful quilt.
I look forward to hearing from you.

This is personalized for me as a picture of my trailer was sketched onto one of the squares. I spend one month each summer on the land we bought on the cliffs overlooking Spouts Cove in Kingston, near Carbonear, NL.   Submitted By: NULL
