Grandmudders Buttons
Both of my grandmothers always had a tin of buttons near by
Back in those days, all the woman kept them ready to apply

Those interesting colored buttons were like precious stones when I was young
All shapes and sizes, and not many matching ones to be found among

There was always something to be mended or hand sewn back then
The intricate detail of beautifully stitched clothes was a skill and now a yen

I too have a tin of buttons inherited from my grandmothers over the years
Like to run my fingers through them periodically, when I need to be cheered

Even to create unique pieces of art, which I have seen some people do
Is a great way to display treasures of the past and our youth

Collecting buttons is a Newfoundland tradition that I hope will continue on
Too many of our wonderful traditions are in peril of being foregone~ Submitted By: Alicia "Celeste" Loughrey
