Both of my grandmothers always had a tin of buttons near by<br /> Back in those days, all the woman kept them ready to apply<br /> <br /> Those interesting colored buttons were like precious stones when I was young<br /> All shapes and sizes, and not many matching ones to be found among<br /> <br /> There was always something to be mended or hand sewn back then<br /> The intricate detail of beautifully stitched clothes was a skill and now a yen<br /> <br /> I too have a tin of buttons inherited from my grandmothers over the years<br /> Like to run my fingers through them periodically, when I need to be cheered<br /> <br /> Even to create unique pieces of art, which I have seen some people do<br /> Is a great way to display treasures of the past and our youth<br /> <br /> Collecting buttons is a Newfoundland tradition that I hope will continue on<br /> Too many of our wonderful traditions are in peril of being foregone~   Submitted By: Alicia "Celeste" Loughrey
