Grand Bruit

This summer my husband, Kevin, & I have found the most peaceful and tranquil place on the island portion of Newfoundland-it's Grand Bruit, a name given by early settlers which interprets to "great noise" which is a fitting description to the natural waterfall cascading through the center of this quaint outport community and the community has just 35 residents all year. No cars, no buses, no busy streets, no stop lights -just a leisure, kick-back and relaxing atmosphere. Grand Bruit is not accessible by road...only by a 2 1/2 hour coastal boat ride from Rose Blanche on the southwestern part of the province. It boasts visitors from Germany, France, USA and Canada - and even a visit from politicians. The accommodations at the Blue Mountain Cabins are beyond expectation -with homemade bread waiting upon our arrival. There is a trail that leads to the Blue Mountain hills which are silhouetted on the back of this community, and also a trail to their beach. Local guides can take you to the rivers that are teeming with salmon (you should fill all your salmon tags there!). The fog hovered over this little inlet community in the morning of our departure which made for a 'picture-perfect' picture.   Submitted By: NULL
