“Goin’ home this summer?”
Is a common question amongst Newfies up here living on 'the Mainland'
It’s something that only a Newfoundlander would understand
Usually every one answers “yes b’y you knows for sure”
“I’ll be goin’ till the day I dies for ever more”
“Are you flyin’ or drivin’ there”, they’ll also ask
“Not sure yet, depends on the price of gas”
For most people it’s to the cottage or down South
But almost every Newfie likes to go home I don’t doubt
There’s nothing like having ‘Jig’s Dinner’ or ‘Coldplates’ on the rock
You’re havin such a good time, no need to look at a clock
Everyone is welcoming and invites you in for a cup of tea
Or a drink and a jig depending on ‘who you be’
I LOVE going home summertime and try to do it at least every 2nd year
My son loves it too even though he was born here
'A Newfies a Newfie’ wherever you live
To have my parents live closer is a wish I would give~
