Genoa – May 6, 2012
When I mentioned to my dad that I would be in Genoa and the significance of Columbus there, the first thing he mentioned was that he thought John Cabot was from there, too...he who first set foot on what is now Newfoundland (Vikings settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows notwithstanding). When I mentioned the Cabot question to those in-the-know, historically, at Genoa (Genova), they mentioned the belief that Cabot was from Florence (Firenza) or Venice (Venetia). The attached shows the influence of Cabot (Giovanni Caboto) in Nervi....a small town on the outskirts of Genoa. Submitted By: NULL
