Gary Rowe of Winterton, Newfoundland was awarded a medal of bravery for the rescue of a drowning friend at Outside Pond in 1975. The medal was presented by then Governor-General Jules Leger at Government House. In July of 1975, he was also named CJON’s Citizen of the Week in honour of his heroic actions.
