For Norm ( and his Wharf)
This picture is in Stag Harbour, Fogo Island. My dad passed away 3 years ago and my son Jason wrote this poem for his pop. For Norm (and His Wharf) by Jason Normore One foot over the other Walking on my Grandfather's wharf- Mind the gaps that time has left Between the boarded path. Cheeks and tongues and fillets cut Dinner caught by hand, But all the while in ocean Reflections on the land. See, in between the wooden boards The space between our steps, The ocean for him a lot like that-It created gaps. Time to float, learn to ride the waves Preparation for the storms. Grandfather was a fisherman But his wharf taught me more. I can't say I can gut a fish Or haul a punt ashore, But I don't ever step too quick- "You'll find the ocean floor!" Wear a hat and tie your boots Watch land drift away. And as it fades out of view, That's where sense is made. Submitted By:
