Flying Tiger Line Hooked Mat

Flying Tiger Line Hooked Mat

As a member of the Hooking Matters rug group in Gander, our project this winter was to hook something about aviation. First, I didn't know what to hook. Then it came to me that my husband was working with Flying Tiger Line in Gander when I met him. Just before we got married, he sketched this airplane "Flying Tiger Line." The next thing was to figure out where to look after all those years. Finally it was found, with only a month left to hook it because a display of our work was going to be set up in the Arts and Culture Centre in Gander. First I had to get it enlarged and then find material in the colour I needed because the plane had to be silver. Thanks to Sandra Kelly, one of our rug hookers, I had the silver material. As the saying goes, I was on pins and needles when I was hooking it, afraid I wasn't going to have enough silver material and there wasn't anymore to get like it. Finally it was finished, with one little strip left, I had plenty of the other colours for the mat. Thanks to my husband Hardy for sketching it so many years ago. The date "August 29th,1957" was written on the back. Just nine days after, September 7, 1957, we were married. Our display on aviation is presently on display at Gander Airport.   Submitted By: Janette Lambert
