Elizabeth Layden
My 91-year "young" mother loves to read your Downhome magazine every month. Your subscription is a regular Christmas gift for mom from my husband and myself.
Born Elizabeth Layden, September 26, 1924, in Corner Brook, NL. She married my dad (Thomas Wheeler) in Jan. 1954. Mom relocated to Brantford nearly 42 years ago, 1974, where she was employed in the food preparation industry as a cook.
For this position, mom drew heavily on her extensive experience in the Canadian Arm Forces (1940-1945) for meal preparation for service men and service women at the following bases: Rockcliff, Ottawa (Ont), Halifax (NS) and Torbay (NL). Many a friendship was the result of mom's preparation and serving hearty, healthy home cooked meals to many during the service.
