Arthur Bliss Smith &amp; The Early Electrification of Newfoundland<br /> <br /> Arthur Bliss Smith, A.I.E.E. ( 1880-1946) of Brigus and St. Johns, a graduate in Electrical Engineering, played a prominent role in the early electrification of Newfoundland. Throughout his career from 1899 to 1936 he was involved in the installation and operation of the following power plants:<br /> <br /> 1899-1908: Operator of the Petty Harbour Power Plant<br /> 1908-1917: Operator of the Grand Falls Power Plant<br /> 1917-1920: Construction and operator of the Catalina Power Plant (Union Electric Light &amp; Power)).<br /> 1920-1924: Reorganizing St Johns power distribution (NL Light &amp; Power)<br /> 1924-1925: Chief Operator and Installation of Deer Lake Power Plant<br /> 1925-1936: Superintendent of Services for power distribution in St Johns (NL Light and Power). <br /> <br /> From: Whos Who In and From Newfoundland, 1937.<br /> <br /> Arthur Bliss Smith was my Grandfather.<br /> <br /> John Cornick<br /> Halifax, Nova Scotia<br /> <br />   Submitted By: John Cornick
