Duty Done
Duty Done

Whenever I see old buildings like these
I am so touched by the sadness they bring
For back in the days of ancestral times
They touched our souls and rang our chimes

They were places built with the utmost care
By loving ancestors far out there
Who are now long gone to their reward
Not forgotten but well in our memory stored

Like a very old person in a rocking chair
Relegated to a corner just waiting there
To live out their days away from the crowd
With only old memories to be so endowed

Awaiting soon their final demise
With resignation across their face
Deep weathered brow and hands all knurled
Just sitting there with flag now furled

Nostalgic is the word of choice
That I would attach to these images fine
Work all done and so satisfied
Just sitting there with a feeling of pride

So important that these images exist
To remind us that life is a continuum through space
To remind us of our place sublime
That we are here for just one small slice of time

John Cornick
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Submitted By: John Cornick
