Nothing says "Downhomer" moment like this picture taken on Gerry and Shirley Skanes wedding day. It captures who they are as a couple who truly enjoy activities like fishing, hiking, berry picking, canning, and ATV riding. We were honoured to attend the outdoor wedding of Gerry Skanes, my husband's childhood friend, to Shirley Reid. Their wedding, held at their home on Bell Island, was absolutely perfect. The weather, the ceremony, celebration, BBQ and evening camp-fire (complete with music from VOCM's "Cabin Party") combined to be one of the most memorable weddings we had ever attended. There is peaceful feeling that overcomes you in Newfoundland and Labrador, a sense of belonging that's always with you, even if you're far from home.
