Downhome Wedding: This Codfish Is For the Birds…
Recently we attended a wedding for my daughter Kelly Leonard and Mike Power, at the Cambridge Newfoundland Club. Kelly's parents are both from Newfoundland, as well as her new husband, so we decided we wanted to screech Kelly in at her wedding. Kelly, being the sport she is, went along with everything. Performing the screeching-in were Bernard McGrath and John White, both from Bell Island. Kelly was given a pair of rubber boots which she displayed for everyone. She was then given a slice of Maple Leaf bologna to eat. Standing in for the codfish was the puffin that she kissed and then she drank the Newfie screech. Kelly was then given a Newfoundland certificate, pronouncing her a true Newfoundlander. The one thing left for Kelly to do was to dance with her rubber boots on. Submitted By: NULL
