Garry Hogan visited Ireland Sept. 13-27th, 2012. Garry, who hails from St. John’s, now resides in North Saanich, B.C. with his wife Dona. While on the Emerald Isle he fished Lough Mask and Lough Corrib, and checked out the River Boyne. Behind him as he holds the Downhome and the local Irish Daily Mail dated the 26th of Sept. is the “Trim Castle.” (Note of interest : His Surname appears in the headlines of the current Irish Daily Mail. No relation to Garry.)

“Trim Castle, the largest Anglo-Norman Castle in Ireland, was constructed over a 30-year period by Hugh de Lacy and his son Walter. Hugh de Lacy was granted the liberty of Meath by King Henry ll in 1172 in an attempt to curb the expansionist policies of Richard de Clare (Stronglow). Construction of the massive three-storied Keep, the central stronghold of the castle, was begun in 1176 on the site of an earlier wooden fortress.” Trim Castle appeared in the film “Braveheart.”
