Downhome on Safari
Enclosed please find a picture of me, Nancy Humy, at Kruger National Park, South Africa in February of this year. My father, Richard Humby, was born in 1917 in Summerville, Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland and has been a subscriber of the Downhomer for quite a few years. Summerville is where I spent all my summers until I was 18 years old because my dad would go home to visit my grandparents every year.
My dad gives me all the Downhomers to read after he is finished because I love them so much. Up until a year and a half ago I was passing them onto my boyfriend’s father who has never been to Newfoundland but loves the magazine. Since then we have bought him the subscription for his birthday.
As you can see the Downhomer comes with me on my annual vacation. This year I had the privilege of travelling to South Africa to do a safari and thought I would have my picture taken with the magazine in hopes that my dad will pick up his copy someday and see me in it.
Thanks for coming up with the idea for a magazine. I think it is a wonderful way to keep people in touch with the province and also it gives me great pleasant thoughts about my childhood.
