Downhome in Utah
Taken on Aug. 7th, 2004 at the Fam Camp at Hill A.F.B., Utah.
My husband and I were at Hill A.F.B.'s base exchange. As we drove up and parked, we heard music outside. I turned to my husband George and said, "That sounds like Newfoundland music." It was, for sure. When they stopped singing, I introduced myself. It was Eddie Coffey and Marty Delaney! We had a great chat. I was born in St. John's, so we had a lot to talk about. They invited us to a sing-along in the base park that afternoon. So my husband, daughter and I went and had a great time listening to our great Newfoundland music. I have been in the USA since 1958, but Newfoundland is still in my heart and soul and always will be.
I can identify all the folks in the front row of the photo left to right. Chuck Bly, Marty Delaney, Eddie Coffey, myself - Shirley Shaner (nee Adams, St. John's), Helen Bly (nee Motly, St. John's) and George Shaner. Sorry, I cannot remember the folks in the back row. We were all very proud to be holding the Newfoundland flag here in Utah.
Another Newfoundland friend has given my husband and I a three-year subscription to the Downhome and we love it. Keeps us in touch. The new format is wonderful.
