Here I am with November 2011’s issue of Downhome magazine, kind of battle-scarred from being in my knapsack for a few weeks. The Grey Glacier is in the background. This was the fourth day of the W trek in Torres Del Paine National Park in Patagonia, Chile. An awesome sight, an awesome park. Grey Glacier is in the Southern Patagonian Ice field. It flows southward into Grey Glacier Lake, where there are a lot of icebergs, or should I say "glacier bergs," breaking off from the Grey Glacier. This is an easy 23-hour return walk from the refugio on the fourth day of the W trek, so named because the trek is in the shape of a W, if you look at a map. First day to Torres Del Paine, second along a glacier-fed lake, third up the French Valley to the French glacier, fourth day to the Grey Glacier. Superior hiking! Highly recommended. We spent 21 days with G adventure tours, had a guide with us for the W trek, all meals prepared at either an estancia or a refugio. Spent two nights in tents, set up by porters who carried most of our gear, and then one night in a refugio/refuge, which is basically a bunk house with showers/toilets and a large kitchen area. Views of a lifetime and the Downhome magazine was there!
