I remember bringing you home from the SPCA in 2000. Much to the amazement of the staff you had found a home. They said you were the worst dog they had ever had at the shelter. They were definately wrong! When Barry scooped you up in his arms to bring you home, you nibbled on his ears, so we decided to name you after Mike Tyson because of his infamous ear attack on Evander Holyfield. The first few months were somewhat challenging, you wanted things your way and of course me being an Aries, I was going to have things my way, you were a fast learner! Our family was whole...you ,the kids and us,, who could ask for more? The family grew and spread their wings, but you never left. You knew a good thing when you had it...no 40 hour work weeks or night shifts, lots of exercise, naps and all the chicken you could eat. Months turned into years and we decided to leave behind the concrete city for fresh air, peace and quiet in rural Newfoundland. Beautiful scenery, ocean views, board walks and a yard with no boundaries, we were in paradise at last! By now we were all walking a little slower and feeling our age, but life was good, we had each other. Then one day two years ago you couldn't get up off your bed. I knew something was wrong, your hips were giving out. A trip to the vet confirmed my fears, but daily medications would help your pain. You seemed better, you could walk around the yard and explore, chase the odd squirrel and play with your beloved soccer ball. Then came the dark days. The days when you couldn't eat or walk and I hated to see you in pain, I didn't want you to leave Tyssen. I couldn't bare the thought of having you put to sleep. Yet I couldn't let you go through it without being by your side. We made a commitment to each other and I'd stay with you till the end no matter how much it bruised my heart, and it did. Did you feel me stroke your head or hear me whisper softly as I held your head in my hands, when for the final time, you looked calmly into my eyes then went peacefully to sleep. Tyssen, did you hear me when I said I love you and I would see you again my old friend?
