You were my well of knowledge,
And I drank deeply of your wisdom.
You were my rock, my foundation,
Always steadfast in your strength,
Giving me the courage to seek my own path.
You were my sanctuary, my haven.
Your loving arms protected me,
When life threw its punches.
You let me grow; you nurtured me,
And in your garden I blossomed.
You knew when it was time for me to leave the nest,
And you loved me enough to let me go.
With your tender support, I was never afraid.
Because no matter what happened, I knew,
You would be there for me.
As a child, I fell and scraped my knee,
And your loving touch took away the pain.
As a woman, I fell and my heart was broken,
And your loving counsel helped it mend.
Through the years, my journey took me away from you,
But a piece of my heart always stayed behind.
I carried your face in my mind,
And I carried your love in my heart.
How I wish I could wrap my arms around you now!
To thank you for all that you did for me,
And tell you how much you mean to me.
But one day, when I wasn’t there,
You slipped quietly away,
And I didn’t even get to say goodbye.
I thought the sun would never shine again!
Death had robbed me of my Mother!
What was I without you?
Grief was the deepest pain I’d ever felt,
And you weren’t there to make it better.
But one day I looked in the mirror,
And there you were, looking back at me!
You are part of me, just as I am part of you,
And that knowledge will carry me forward.
I love you Mother, and I miss you,
And no matter how much time passes,
I still carry your face in my mind,
And your love in my heart!
