Dandelion, O Dandelion
A poem I had written some time ago, entitled "Dandelion, O Dandelion." Inspiration for the poem came at a time when there seemed to be so much criticism of the dandelion.
Dandelion, O dandelion,
Some people call you weed,
But to me you are a welcome sight,
A welcome sight indeed.
For winter's snow is barely gone
And April brings its shower,
When through the green once more is seen
Your lovely golden flower.
You adorn the fields, the winding paths
Through places far and near,
Your golden sheen by meadow stream,
It seems you're everywhere.
You shine, you shine, O dandelion
From morn till dark of night,
Your beauty abounds on every mound,
You're the bumblebee's delight.
But all too soon it seems to me
You lose your lustrous glow,
And the golden dot that marked the spot
Is now as white as snow.
Now tiny seeds all fluffy white
All clustered on your stem
Will soon go free - destined to be
Some distant shining gem.
