Count Your Blessings
By Pearl White
As I walked down the street one day
I met a man and asked the way
He looked at me like he didn't care
But later I knew, that he couldn't hear
A little further on I went
And met a woman all stooped and bent
Trying to struggle on her feet
But the look on her face told me she was beat
Still trying to find where I wanted to go
I met a dog with a man in tow
No use asking him to show the way
As he couldn't see the light of day
I continued on and went to a door
To be answered by a girl so poor
But she was kind, and asked me in
To a house that was shabby, and neat as a pin
I rested there for an hour or more
Then continued on like I did before
Came to a park and sat under a tree
And heard the birds singing so sweetly to me
I thought of the man who couldn't hear
The beautiful sounds that filled the air
And of the man that couldn't see
The flowers and trees that surrounded me
I bet that woman who couldn't walk
Had never been to this lovely park
And then the girl that looked so poor
Was probably never here before
While sitting there I heard myself say
What's wrong with me to be acting this way
I have my health; I can hear and see
So what else could be bothering me
I have family, so loving and kind
I have a home where I can find
Peace, contentment, so what do I fear?
The people I met today need the most care
As I left the park, I said a prayer
To watch over such people everywhere
I have so much more to be thankful for
It's a sin to hope and pray for more
