Each morning before going to school, my brothers and sisters and I were given a spoonful of cod liver oil. It made my stomach turn over. One morning, after taking the spoonful of oil, I ran to the closet under our stairs and spit it into my fathers' old winter coat pocket. Not sure if it was discovered. I imagine it soaked into the pocket. I think most of the families used this as a necessity to keep us children healthy. This was during the early 1940s.
